Archimedes Drive Patent Submitted
The patent for the ultra high ratio Archimedes compound planetary friction drive, designed by Jack Schorsch, was submitted, and is under review by the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend. The Archimedes drive may be a way to produce high ratio mechanical transmissions, from 50:1 to 50,000:1 in a single, highly efficient stage. The drive promises to be zero backlash, very stiff, and have a very good efficiency. We hope this gives robotic and mechatronic designers a great new tool for the design of lighter, stronger, and better systems.
