PhD Candidate at the Department of Precision and Microsystems Engineering, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.
Ever since I constructed my first LEGO® Technic sets, I have been interested in what I later learned is systems engineering. During my graduation work on a subsystem of the student satellite Delfi-n3Xt, I learned to appreciate the complexities and subtleties of this art, while my involvement in a start-up introduced me to the socio-economic aspects. And as my apprehension of the dimensionality of systems engineering increases, so is my fascination.
Currently, my PhD research on the stiffness analysis of parallel manipulators introduces me to a new, very exciting and booming field of engineering. The number of companies involved with robotics is steadily rising and I looking forward to joining one of them after my PhD.
Next to doing research, I also enjoy reading a good popular science book, listening to electronic music in various disguises, improvising on my piano and wavesurfing in our North Sea if the Dutch weather permits.
